Workers’ Compensation Nurse Triage

If an employee experiences a minor injury that requires only self-care or first aid or is unsure whether an in-person evaluation is necessary, the next step is to contact the agency’s Workers’ Compensation Nurse Triage Hotline.

Minor injuries are defined as those that typically do not require a doctor’s visit (for example: small cuts, scratches, minor burns, or splinters). The employee must be provided with complete privacy during this call.

A medical professional on the hotline will assess the injury, determine its severity, and advise on any needed treatment. If the nurse recommends an in-person evaluation, follow SOP 7.5.3 – Workers’ Compensation In-Person Treatment.
