Professional Development Hours

Head Start performance standards require all staff to complete a minimum of 15 clock hours of professional development per year. Shasta Head Start requires a minimum of 21 clock hours for all education staff; this aligns with the professional development hours needed to maintain a Child Development Permit. Hours are tracked from September 1st – August 31st every year by the HR Training and Development Specialist (HRTDS).

Professional Development is defined as any training designed to assist staff in acquiring or increasing the knowledge and skills needed to provide high-quality, comprehensive services with the scope of their job responsibilities. All training sessions require a training log to be sent to the HR Department for tracking purposes, attached to the log should be an agenda or overview of the training.

Individual/group staffing and site meetings do not count towards professional development hours. These meetings are conducted for supervision purposes and not professional development. If a training is given at one of these meetings, a separate training log needs to be submitted.

Staff can see a record of all trainings they have completed with Shasta Head Start through their Paycom self service portal under “My Learning” – “History”. Any questions regarding professional development hours can be directed to the HRTDS.
