Preparing for Weekly Home Visits

Home visits # 1-11 facilitate the natural development of a partnership between the parent and the home visitor. The first eleven plans are intended to:

    • Establish the routines, expectations, and boundaries of the personal visit.
    • Introduce each area of emphasis.
    • Introduce the tools, handouts, and other curriculum materials.
    • Set relationship patterns.
    • Introduce core parenting knowledge.
    • Grow the skills of parents and home visitors in partnering, facilitation, and reflection
    • Provide a transition into shared decision making and planning.

Once the home visitor and family complete the first eleven Personal and Foundational Visits, they will use the Personal Visit Planning Guide/Home Visit Record. Taking the time to intentionally plan each part of the visit individualizes the plan for the family and thoroughly prepares the home visitor for the visit.
