Meal Waiver – Employee Shift Six Hours or Less
Meal Waiver – Employee Shift Six Hours or Less
Employees who work more than five hours in one day are required to be offered a meal break of at least 30 minutes. However, if an employee works more than five hours but less than six hours in any given day they can, with their supervisor’s permission, choose to waive their right to a 30-minute meal break.
The Meal Waiver – Employee Shift Six Hours or Less form must be completed and returned to the Human Resources department if an employee chooses to waive their meal break. The employee only needs to fill this form out once, it is not required to be completed each time the employee waives their meal break under the six-hour threshold. The employee’s supervisor must also agree to meal waiver and sign the form.
The employee can choose to cancel their six-hour meal period waiver at any point in their employment. The cancellation must be completed and returned to the Human Resources department.
Shasta Head Start may revoke the meal waiver at their discretion.
Supervisors,
Please follow the guidelines below:
- If an employee completes their shift in 6 hours or less, no further action is required.
- If an employee works more than 6 hours (6.01 hours or more), the Meal Waiver – Employee Shift Six Hours or Less form is no longer applicable. In this case, the employee must complete the Employee Late Meal Break/Missed Meal Break form.
