7.5.5.1
Work-Related Injuries/Illnesses
Employees who sustain work-related injuries or illnesses should inform their supervisor immediately no matter how minor it may appear.
Once an injury/illness has been reported, the supervisor asks the employee whether they would like to be seen by a medical professional or not. In cases of serious or life-threatening emergencies, call 911. Whether or not an employee requests to be seen by a medical professional, the supervisor must complete a Supervisor’s Report of Accident Form and submit this to Human Resources and your Area Manager immediately. The form can be submitted via scan or email.
Many injury/illnesses can be treated with simple first aid. If an employee declines to be seen by a medical professional, the supervisor just needs to ensure the Supervisor’s Report of Accident Form has been completed & submitted to HR and your Area Manager.
If the employee has requested to be seen by a medical professional, the next step is to contact our agency’s Workers’ Compensation Nurse Triage line, Medcor. Refer to SOP 7.5.2 Workers’ Compensation Nurse Triage for more information on the nurse triage process.
