Wage Increases
Outside of Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA) and other agency-initiated wage increases, staff have two ways to increase their wages: education or CD Permits.
Education
Almost all Shasta Head Start positions* allow for wage increases based upon educational degree level (no degree, Associate’s, Bachelor’s)**. It is the responsibility of the employee to submit proof of degree to the HR Department. Proof of degree can be provided through a diploma, unofficial or official transcripts, or a letter on official letterhead from the college/university. Wage increases will be effective the date of receipt of proof of degree.
All staff wanting to continue their education are welcome to apply for Education Stipends through Shasta Head Start or pursue other community-based education stipend/scholarship resources through agencies like Quality Counts North State.
*Positions not eligible for wage increases based on education levels are: Bilingual Aide, Bus Driver, Cook, Cook Aide, CPR/First Aide Trainer, ECE Trainee, Temporary Substitute, & Special Needs Aide. These positions have one base rate.
**Specialist and managerial positions allow for a wage increase for Master’s degrees.
CD Permits
Effective 08/07/2022, Shasta Head Start put a 5% increase into the pay scale for all classroom education staff (Classroom Aides, Associate Teachers, Teachers, Primary Caregivers, Head Teachers, Site Supervisors, and Substitutes) with current California Child Development Permits (CD Permits).
Effective 9/18/2022, Shasta Head Start put a 5% increase into the pay scale for Child Development Coordinators and Mentors with current California Child Development Permits (CD Permits).
Only CD Permits issued through California’s Commission on Teaching Credentialing will be eligible for the increase. Temporary Permits (TCCs) are not issued from the CTC and therefore will not be accepted for the wage increase. The increase will only be for Associate Teacher level of CD Permits and higher; it will not be applicable for the Assistant level.
If a staff member’s CD Permit lapses, their pay rate would be decreased to the base rate of their position based on their education level. It is the staff member’s responsibility to provide proof of CD Permit to the HR Department. Wage increases will be effective based upon the date of receipt of proof of valid CD Permit. Any decreases due to lapses in CD Permits would be effective the date after the CD Permit expires.
