Teaching Pyramid Snapshot
The purpose of the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot is to ensure fidelity of the implementation of the CA Teaching Pyramid in all SHS classrooms. The tool focuses on the classroom strategies needed to build the foundation of social and emotional skills for children. The Teaching Pyramid Snapshot will be used to identify strengths as well as areas that need improvement.
The Teaching Pyramid Snapshot will be completed three times each year. The first Snapshot will be completed by Child Development and Disabilities Department within 60-90 days of the classroom start date (August 1st – October 31st). Site Supervisors or Area Managers will complete the second and third Snapshot for each classroom. The second Snapshot will be completed between November 1st and January 31st and the third Snapshot will be completed between February 1st and March 31st. Snapshot observations should be scheduled in a manner that allows time between each observation. In addition, the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot may be completed by staff from the Child Development Department and Disabilities Department during monitoring and as needed.
Supervisors and department staff will fill out the classroom information at the top of the tool and answer the questions on the checklist during a 20-minute focused observation. Answers will be marked “yes” or “no”. The total number of “yes” answers will be divided by 12 to determine the overall percent.
To reach fidelity, the classroom must reach an overall percent score of 90% or higher. Classrooms who do not reach the 90% mark will receive a Teaching Pyramid Snapshot Plan of Action.
Staff completing the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot will schedule a time to meet with the classroom Teacher or Primary Caregiver to go over the results of the monitor. During the feedback, the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot and Teaching Pyramid Snapshot Plan of Action (if completed) will be reviewed, and any necessary follow-up given.
Once the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot is completed, Site Supervisors and any Admin Department staff will email the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot and Teaching Pyramid Snapshot Plan of Action (if applicable) to their Area Manager and scan to the Disabilities folder. Supervisors will keep the original copy of the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot in their Supervision Binder for 2 program years. Area Managers will scan completed Teaching Pyramid Snapshot and any Teaching Pyramid Snapshot Plan of Action(s) to the Education folder.
Teaching Pyramid Snapshot Plan of Action
The Teaching Pyramid Snapshot Plan of Action will be completed for any classroom who scores below a 90% on the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot.
Complete the classroom information portion at the top of the tool. Staff will then complete the strengths portion and the action plan portion of the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot Plan of Action. The area for recommendations may be used as needed. Use the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot Plan of Action Sample Form for guidance.
Once completed, use the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot Plan of Action with the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot during the review meeting with the Teacher/Primary Caregivers. Obtain appropriate signatures and scan the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot Plan of Action with the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot to the Education scan folder and email to the Area Manager.
The Teaching Pyramid Snapshot will be completed again within 30 days to ensure the Teaching Pyramid Snapshot Plan of Action items have been met. Once completed, scan the updated Teaching Pyramid Snapshot Plan of Action to the Education folder and email to the Area Manager.
