Opening Checklist (EHS/HS)

Opening Checklist

Refer to the Opening Checklist below when opening a SHS center for the day. (Some items may not apply to all centers)

  1. Disable alarm (if applicable)
  2. Unlock all doors, except front door
  3. Turn on lights – classroom, kitchen, etc.
  4. Open windows and blinds as needed
  5. Check the temperature in the classrooms – thermostat should be set to the appropriate temperature depending on time of year
    • 78 degrees when the weather is hot
    • 68 degrees when the weather is cold
  6. Set up classrooms and playground
  7. Unlock all gates and sheds as needed (e.g. playground shed)
  8. Turn on dishwasher and other appliances as needed (e.g. bottle warmer)
  9. Complete items on the Daily Center Maintenance checklist related to opening procedures
  10. Put trash liners in trash cans in all areas as needed
  11. Wash and disinfect mealtime tables
  12. Wash and disinfect changing table area (including mat)
  13. Check laundry – start new wash load, put wet clothes/linens in dryer, fold/put away dry clothes/linens (if time permits)
  14. Unlock front door at opening time (opening time varies by center)
  15. Check phone message machine for staff and/or family voicemails
