Walk-ins and Call-ins
Occasionally, someone will walk into a Head Start center or the Admin Office to find out how to enroll their child.
- If the ERSEA Department completes applications and eligibility interviews for your center, follow the steps below:
- The Family Worker offers to contact ERSEA on their behalf while the family is present and/or completes the Short Sheet
- Scan the short sheet to the ERSEA scan folder
- Before the family leaves the center, offer them an ERSEA business card
- If the family brought in eligibility documentation (e.g., age verification for their child, income documents, or proof of public assistance), offer to send a copy to the ERSEA department.
- Scan the document(s) to the ERSEA scan folder
- Email ERSEA about the document(s)
- The Family Worker offers to contact ERSEA on their behalf while the family is present and/or completes the Short Sheet
- If your center completes applications and eligibility interviews (usually in outlying areas), follow the steps below:
- Sit down with the family for a few minutes to determine their needs
- Address any questions they may have, such as:

- Use the In-person/Phone Interview Example and notify the family of the type of documents they need to gather and schedule a time to complete the eligibility application and interview
- Once complete, scan all documents to the ERSEA scan folder
- ERSEA reviews application and eligibility documents for completeness
- No corrections required – ERSEA processes the application and waitlists the family in ChildPlus
- Corrections required – ERSEA emails the Family Worker or Home Visitor with questions or necessary corrections
- Family Worker/Home Visitor corrects the application and/or gathers more documentation from the family and re-scans the application to the ERSEA scan folder.
