CPR/First Aid
CPR and First Aid training are an essential part of ensuring child health and safety. California Child Care Regulations and Head Start Program Performance Standards require that certain staff with regular child contact maintain current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification. Shasta Head Start will provide, through voucher or reimbursement, Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification for the following groups of people:
- All Current Employees
- All Current FCC Providers and their staff
- Current Parents and Family members of enrolled children (up to two members per household)
Certification Requirements
The following staff are required to complete and maintain ongoing Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification:
- Site Supervisors, Head Teachers, Teachers, Associate Teachers, Primary Caregivers, and Full Time Substitutes are required to be First Aid and CPR certified within 60 days of employment.
- Bus Drivers are required to be First Aid and CPR certified before transporting children on the bus.
- Contracted FCC Providers and their staff
These positions are responsible to ensure their certification does not lapse. Staff who are required to maintain CPR and First Aid certification will be paid for the time they spend completing the class. Staff must submit punch change requests on the day of the training for the time they attend. Supervisors should add a note in the payroll system on the date that the employee is scheduled to attend CPR/First Aid.
All other Shasta Head Start staff who choose to complete CPR/First Aid certification will not be paid for the time they spend completing the class.

After HR processes the information, the original card will be mailed directly to the participants current address in the payroll system or ChildPlus for parents in the program.
Each staff member is responsible to ensure that a copy of their card is placed in their centers’ on-site licensing file, as applicable.
