CA Training Ch 6 Part 1 Off Floor Planning Time:

Off-floor time refers to time spent in the classroom without children present. 

  • Planning can be done before school starts, and after school ends.  There’s also planned time off during the school day to allow the education staff to get things done.
  • Time varies depends on what program type working in and staffing pattern.

CA Training Ch 6 Part 2 Observational Notes:

When children start school, Teachers and Home Visitors immediately begin observing and gathering information about the children

  • This is the first step in the Ongoing Assessment process.
  • Observational notes are captured on a tablet or desktop computer using an application called Learning Genie.

CA Training Ch 6 Part 3 Individual Child Goals:

Individual Child Goals (ICG) are created to establish developmentally appropriate goals for each child.

  • Goals are based on the information gathered through various screenings, observations and ongoing assessment.
  • The information gathered is used to identify strengths and areas of need.

CA Training Ch 6 Part 4 Family Engagement:

Our program must integrate parent and family engagement strategies into all systems and program services to support family well-being and promote children’s learning and development.

  • It is important to collaborate with families in a family partnership process that identifies needs, interests, strengths, goals, and services and resources that support family well-being.
